Words of Blessing, Prayers of Hope

Deuteronomy 33

This morning when I sat down to read in Deuteronomy I wasn’ t prepared to find what was there – truth that caressed and comforted my soul, words of stong hope. And oddly enough they came in a context of farewell, as Moses pronounced blessing on God’s people right before he died.

The words were an invitation to intercede for dear ones – and even for some who have behaved not so dearly. Praying Scripture is not a new practice but this chapter brought fresh words to bear on some familiar heart burdens.

How immeasurable is the blessing and the hope of verse 12:

Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him, for He shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between His shoulders.

Maybe this passage will assist you as you talk to the Father about those people He has woven into your heart strings.

  • 3 – May they be confident in the security of our place in Your hand!
  • 11 – Bless all his skills, O lord, and be pleased with the work of his hands.
  • 16 –  Bless this dear one “with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness and the favor of him who dwelt in the burning bush.”
  • 19 – May our lives call others to worship You – “they will summon peoples to the mountain and there offer sacrifices of righteousness.”
  • 21 – Bless them as one “who enlarges [his brother’s] domain,”  one who contributes to the success of another.
  • 21 – Turn his heart so that it will be said that “he carried out the Lord’s righteous will and His judgments.”
  • 24 – In Your mercy may it be that they are “abounding with the favor of the Lord and are full of His blessing.”
  • 26 – May their hearts sing forth the truth that “There is no one like [our God], who rides on the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.  The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
  • 29 – May those in distress cling to the knowledge that You are a “shield and helper and a glorious sword.”
