Anticipation, the heart of Christmas … in other words

December 14, 2011

… in other words

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Ps 130:5-6

In fact, this is the season where we stir up anticipation.  We count the days in all kinds of ways. You’ve probably seen Advent calendars of all kinds.

We’ve had the kind with little doors to open every day and one with little pockets containing Christmas symbols for each morning. This year I came across the idea of having 25 ornaments in a large bowl – each with one of the names of the Christ. Every day one of them is placed on the tree: Immanuel, Prince of Peace, Bright & Morning Star, Redeemer, Friend of Sinners …  Or, your countdown might be as simple as 25 sticky notes on the refrigerator which get tossed one at a time.

Part of the fun of Christmas is the building anticipation. We just can’t WAIT!  Because it will happen, it will come.  We will get to the morning when we find out what is inside those wondrous, mysterious packages under the tree!

And because of the Character of God, we have every reason to see the “unknowns” of life just as we see unwrapped Christmas presents. We can anticipate the coming fulfillment of every one of His promises! That’s for absolute certain!
